Freecom 2X to 4X utility
Convert a Freecom 2X so the Cardo app recognizes it as a Freecom 4X.
What this enables
The extra Bluetooth intercom channel available on the Freecom 4X.
What this does not enable
"Hey Cardo" voice control.

Step 1
Choose the new Bluetooth name
The default is FREECOM2XPLUS. This is only the friendly label
shown in Bluetooth menus, so it can be anything you prefer.
New Bluetooth name: FREECOM2XPLUS
Use a different name (optional)
Use 1 to 15 characters.

How to use the utility
The connection works best shortly after the headset powers on.
Bluetooth pairing instructions can be found on page 6 of the device manual here
- Choose the new Bluetooth name above.
- Close the Cardo app. Pair the headset with your computer via Bluetooth.
- Turn the headset off, turn it back on, and wait for it to reconnect.
- Immediately connect below, download the backup, and convert.
- Power-cycle the headset, then forget and re-pair it on your phone.

Connect and check the headset
Select the paired headset. The utility checks compatibility and reads its identity without changing anything.
If connection fails, power-cycle the headset and retry immediately after it reconnects to the computer.

Save the original identity
The JSON backup contains the current and proposed values, including the headset serial number. It is generated locally in your browser.
Step 4
Convert to Freecom 4X
Conversion writes the three identity keys one at a time and verifies each immediately. If any step fails, the utility attempts to restore every key that may have been written.
Keep the headset powered on and nearby. Do not close this tab or interrupt Bluetooth while conversion is running. An interruption can leave the headset identity inconsistent.

Power cycle required
was written and all three persistent values were verified. Fully power the headset off and back on. Forget and re-pair it on your phone to see the new Bluetooth name.
